    Localization Transition in Incommensurate non-Hermitian Systems

    A class of one-dimensional lattice models with incommensurate complex potential V(θ)=2[λrcos(θ)+iλisin(θ)]V(\theta)=2[\lambda_r cos(\theta)+i \lambda_i sin(\theta)] is found to exhibit localization transition at ∣λr∣+∣λi∣=1|\lambda_r|+|\lambda_i|=1. This transition from extended to localized states manifests in the behavior of the complex eigenspectum. In the extended phase, states with real eigenenergies have finite measure and this measure goes to zero in the localized phase. Furthermore, all extended states exhibit real spectrum provided ∣λr∣≥∣λi∣|\lambda_r| \ge |\lambda_i|. Another novel feature of the system is the fact that the imaginary part of the spectrum is sensitive to the boundary conditions {\it only at the onset to localization}

    Fracture Resistance of computer aided endo-crowns versus conventional endo-supported computer aided full crowns

    The purpose of the present study was to investigate the fracture resistance of computer aided endo-crowns versus conventional core-supported computer aided full crowns. Ninety human teeth were collected, 30 for each type (maxillary central incisors, maxillary 1st premolars and maxillary 1st molars). Specimens were divided into 3 groups (n=10) according to restoration used: 1) PC: Post-core and crown; 2) NC: Nayyar core and crown and 3) EC: Endo-crown. Each group was further subdivided into 3 subgroups according to the tooth used: I (Incisor), P (Premolar) and M (Molar). For group PC: Fiber post (Radix, Dentsply Maillefer) were cemented using resin cement (Calibra Dual Cure, Denstply Detrey GmbH). For group NC: 3 mm of gutta percha of every canal was removed. For groups PC and NC, after etching and bonding of root-face, transparent core former (Coltène/ Whaledent) was filled with SDR (Smart Dentine Replacement, Dentsply Detrey GmbH) and inverted onto root-face and cured. All specimens were individually scanned and thermocycled for 1000 cycles then submitted to compression test using universal testing machine (Instron 8874; Instron Corp.) Fracture was confirmed by sudden drop in load readings. Subgroup IPC scored the highest mean among group I and subgroup PNC scored the highest mean among group P. One-Way ANOVA detected significant differences among groups I and M with p\u3c 0.05 in I and M groups. Regarding P group, P-value was \u3e 0.05 indicating no significant differences among group. Endocrown showed the highest fracture resistance means in molars, while Nayyar core and crown showed the highest fracture resistance means in premolars. However, post-core and crown revealed the highest fracture resistance means in incisors

    EVALUATION OF AN EXPERIMENTAL SCREW-RETAINED RETRIEVABLE CROWN VERSUS CONVENTIONAL CROWN DESIGN

    Statement of problem: Removing cemented crowns is usually a complicated procedure that may lead to irreversible damage to the tooth/crown and mostly necessitate remake of crown with added effort for both patient and clinician. Purpose: This in-vitro study evaluated an experimental two-component, screw-retained retrievable crown design in comparison to the conventional design. Materials and methods: A total of 120 extracted maxillary 2nd premolars received root canal treatment and were divided into two groups (n=60 each) according to the crown design they will receive. Gp CC received a threaded modified post, a composite core and a metal coping, while Gp RC received a two-component retrievable crown design. Fracture resistance was assessed by a 90 degrees vertical load to the center of the occlusal surface, using universal testing machine, under a constant crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min until failure. Microleakage was assessed by placing specimens in methylene blue dye for 12 hours, sectioning the teeth longitudinally, and then examining the sectioned samples under stereomicroscope. Retrievability testing was conducted by 5 prosthodontists who attempted to uncover and unscrew the posts. Data were statistically evaluated using computer software (SPSS version 17; SPSS Inc.). Results: No significant difference between the 2 designs tested regarding microleakage tests (P=.34) whereas the experimental design, was significantly more resistant to fracture and more retrievable than the conventional one (P\u3e.5). Conclusions: The proposed retrievable crown design showed promising results and may be considered as an option to substitute the conventional design. Further studies are needed to confirm that

    Strategic entrepreneurship is a growing field within both Entrepreneurship and Management Science. Dynamic flexibility is a concept originally developed to resolve general business issues (Apter, 1985) and later enhanced to address specific strategic management challenges. Strategic Entrepreneurship deals with a singular strategic management response which is to achieve superior performance via simultaneous opportunity-seeking and advantage-seeking activities (Ireland, Hitt, & Simon, 2003). The process of maintaining superior performance is certainly a longitudinal one and requires capabilities on both those dimensions (Ireland & Webb, 2007). In this paper, we propose the use of dynamic flexibility as a useful capability to address strategic entrepreneurship longitudinal issue. By exploring the modulation time response model and different other references from both strategic management and strategic entrepreneurship literature, we aim to establish an integrative framework for dynamic strategic entrepreneurship

    Attitudes, Perceptions and Intimate Partner Violence: A Study of the Nigerian Context

    Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a major public health issue affecting many women around the world. It is a topic that has attracted a great deal of research over the years, but the dynamics of the issue in some parts of the world, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, is still very vague, necessitating more research in the region. This study uses a cross-sectional population-based survey to explore attitudes of women towards gender roles in a Sub-Saharan African country – Nigeria, as this is one of the factors that is likely to influence IPV occurrence. The results show that attitudes towards gender roles in Nigeria are more supportive of male dominance and women being subservient to their husband/partner, and also suggest that addressing such attitudes may be an important strand of action in tackling IPV issues in the country

    Genistein-induced fluid accumulation in ovariectomised rats' uteri is associated with increased cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator expression

    OBJECTIVE: High genistein doses have been reported to induce fluid accumulation in the uteri of ovariectomised rats, although the mechanism underlying this effect remains unknown. Because genistein binds to the oestrogen receptor and the cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator mediates uterine fluid secretion, we hypothesised that this genistein effect involves both the oestrogen receptor and cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator. METHODS: Ovariectomised adult female Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with 25, 50, or 100 mg/kg/day genistein for three consecutive days with and without the ER antagonist ICI 182780. One day after the final drug injection, the animals were humanely sacrificed, and the uteri were removed for histology and cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator mRNA and protein expression analysis using real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting, respectively. The cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator protein distribution was analysed visually by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: The histological analysis revealed an increase in the circumference of the uterine lumen with increasing doses of genistein, which was suggestive of fluid accumulation. Moreover, genistein stimulated a dose-dependent increase in the expression of cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator protein and mRNA, and high-intensity cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator immunostaining was observed at the apical membrane of the luminal epithelium following 50 and 100 mg/kg/day genistein treatment. The genistein-induced increase in uterine luminal circumference and cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator expression was antagonised by treatment with ICI 182780. CONCLUSION: Genistein-induced luminal fluid accumulation in ovariectomised rats' uteri involves the oestrogen receptor and up-regulation of cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator expression, and these findings reveal the mechanism underlying the effect of this compound on changes in fluid volume in the uterus after menopause

    Acoustic Beam Forming Array Using Feedback-Controlled Microphones for Tuning and Self-Matching of Frequency Response

    A feedback-controlled microphone includes a microphone body and a membrane operatively connected to the body. The membrane is configured to be initially deflected by acoustic pressure such that the initial deflection is characterized by a frequency response. The microphone also includes a sensor configured to detect the frequency response of the initial deflection and generate an output voltage indicative thereof. The microphone additionally includes a compensator in electric communication with the sensor and configured to establish a regulated voltage in response to the output voltage. Furthermore, the microphone includes an actuator in electric communication with the compensator, wherein the actuator is configured to secondarily deflect the membrane in opposition to the initial deflection such that the frequency response is adjusted. An acoustic beam forming microphone array including a plurality of the above feedback-controlled microphones is also disclosed

    Rotating Scheimpflug Imaging Indices in Different Grades of Keratoconus

    Purpose. To evaluate accuracy of various Keratoconus (KC) screening indices, in relation to Topographic Keratoconus (TKC) grading. Setting. Al Watany Eye Hospital, Cairo, Egypt. Methods. Data of 103 normal (group 1) and 73 KC eyes (group 2), imaged by Pentacam (branded as Allegro Oculyzer), were analysed. Group 2 was divided into 2a: 14 eyes (TKC = 1, early KC), 2b: 25 eyes (TKC = 1 to 2 or 2, moderate KC), and 2c: 34 eyes (TKC = 2 to 3 up to 4, severe KC). Participants were followed up for six years to confirm diagnosis. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was calculated for evaluated curvature, elevation, and pachymetry indices with various reference shapes at different diameters. Results. When comparing normal to KC eyes, ten indices had significantly higher AUROC. Only five of them had significantly higher AUROC in early KC compared to normal corneas: Pachymetry Progression Index- (PPI-) Maximum (Max), Ambrósio’s Relational Thickness- (ART-) Max, PPI-Max minus PPI-Minimum (Min), central corneal thickness (CCT), and diagonal decentration of thinnest point from the apex (AUROC = 0.690, 0.690, 0.687, 0.683, and 0.674, resp.). Conclusion. Generally, ten pachymetry and elevation-based indices had significantly higher AUROC. Five indices had statistically significant high AUROC when comparing early KC to normal corneas
